1. Officer Reports
General Manager & Treasurer - We are momentarily financially down, but that's because we spent all our money on Magic cards. They will turn themselves back into money. We should make efforts to make deposits more often. The campaign to make lots of awesome things in the store is going well. New Year's Eve had 35 people at its peak, the Game-a-thon had 32. Warmer Winters raised about $100. It was our most successful game-a-thon ever. Worldwake stuff is coming up. Magic League is starting on Valentine's Day. On the 27th and 28th we're having our 2 year anniversary. The 27th is going to be a Dominion tournament, the 28th will be a Legacy tournament. You can play with cards that are older than the store! There will be something run Sunday night to Monday morning by Dan. The weekend after that is Maul Con III. It will be awesome, and now we can sell stuff. Our Magic Judge will be leaving in April. We are hoping to have more people certified as judges.
Quartermaster - We got some Worldwake. We have sleeves again in many varieties, they are exciting. We have Space Alert, which is a game by the folks who make Galaxy Trucker.
2. Discussion/ Proposed Actions
- Creation of a Policy on how long things are kept in the Lost and Found
Phoenix used to periodically auction the Lost and Found. There would be a silent auction where people could bid, if there were more than 3 or 4 bids then it would go to a vocal auction. We should perhaps identify how long items have been in the lost and found. If we are to do this, there should be 2 Lost and Found bins, one of which begins to be used a certain amount of time before the auction. We should begin this, starting with the anniversary. The first of these auctions will be on February 27th.
- Current Shift Coverage/Uncovered Shifts, how to get more people covering
We should make efforts to have the store not be closed in the middle of the day, which has happened on occasion. This looks bad for the store. There are currently a number of places on the schedule that are marked as Open Shift. We need to work on scheduling additional people. Kiernan is currently scheduled for a large number of shifts, and there are 3 Open Shifts, so trying to get more people scheduled is important. Asa has one shift, which means there needs to be someone else in the store, because we prefer to not have someone under 18 covering the store alone.
We should train more people, if possible. Is everyone who wants a shift able to get one right now? There are other people who should perhaps be trained. Who is interested and able to do training? We should maybe disperse responsibility for training. Having a list of people who are willing and available to help with training would be good. There should probably be a clear policy about it. We don't really have redundancy on officer jobs, so we need things to be delegated clearly. Perhaps there should also be a clear policy on whether or not someone in a role-playing game, or some other event, can be covering register.
Having someone covering while gaming is sub-optimal, but perhaps other open shifts should be our priority?
Open Shifts have been problematic, and have happened many times before, but really have occurred now and then for quite a while, but we have more than usual, or more persistent than usual. The perception of approaching the Membership Coordinator being difficult is important, and Kiernan is aware of it. This is definitely something that should be worked on.
Is a resolution of the Council necessary at the time?
Proposed resolution of the Council: It is preferable that each shift be covered by a person not currently participating in an event.
Withdrawn
Dan, Michael and Kiernan will meet to discuss various things.
4. Scheduling the Next Council Meeting: March 10, 2010. 7:00 PM.
